Marketing video & Documentary on rural gentrification

Dorette Potgieter Productions was commissioned to produce a marketing video for the Department of Geography and Environmental studies showcasing various amenities and a documentary on gentrification in and around the hamlets of Stellenbosch.

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies is the oldest university department that has taught and conducted research in the field of geography in British colonised Africa. South African Geography teaching and research was championed by Professor Samuel Shand in 1913. The actual teaching of geography commenced in 1914 at Victoria College, the institution from which Stellenbosch University was established in 1918. In 2020 the Department celebrated its centenary. During the mid1960s growing demand for physical space resulted in the rehousing of the department of the Natural Sciences Building. Since the early 2000s the Department has been housed in the Chamber of Mines Building, centrally located along Ryneveld Street.

A documentary on gentrification with project leader Prof. Ronnie Donaldson
